// Designer Geek

30 11 2010

No, that’s not designer clothing, but rather than profession of being a designer, and all things designer-geek that go with the territory…

As you’ll have no doubt gathered by now, I do have a bit of a ~thing~ for ampersands (and other pretty design related things), so these are yet more beautiful pieces to add to my ongoing designer-geek-wishlist. I know for a fact that these stunners would be lovely additions to the accessories corner of my bedroom:

// Ampersand accessories

25 08 2009

As I was saying yesterday about constantly getting caught up in the cycle of clicking into things and getting distracted, well it’s happened again today. Who knew you could lose hours of your life just by browsing the internet?

There’s a whole host of ampersand objects available, and I just can’t stop looking at those delectable curves and flourishes. I’ve found far too many things that I want to share to fit in one blog, so this one is dedicated solely to ampersand accessories (of which there are plenty – believe me)!

Let me know which your favourites are from the items I’ve posted, and if you know of any other ampersand accessories that should’ve made the list, I want to see them!

// The Ampersand

24 08 2009

The ampersand is a ligature, which combines e and t to form the Latin et, which means and. The array of typographic designs for the ampersand are wildly varied, but in most of them, you can still make out the ‘e’ and the ‘t’ characters.

I’ve just spent the last couple of hours trawling the internet. Looking at one image, browsing through the blog it’s been posted on. Seeing a few more images I like. Searching for others and beginning the cycle once more…One of my favourite finds this evening is this. I think one day, when time allows (that’s right, even when not working I never feel as though I have enough hours in the day), I’d like to try my hand at creating something along the same lines.

Whilst perusing various websites, I realised just how many ampersand objects there are. So many in fact, that I could (and probably will) write a blog entry solely about them.

Do I have you running for the hills yet readers? A mid-twenties girl who seems pretty normal, but is actually obsessed with ampersands and pretty typography.

Don’t worry – I’m not even close to being finished discussing my favourite typographic character ;)

// Ecclestone & Miller

23 08 2009

Speculative logo design work created (whilst employed at a Leeds studio) for regional cleaning company Ecclestone & Miller. The colours I opted to use are complementary, providing a strong, vibrant contrast throughout the brand, and all four logos featured a prominent ampersand. The one featured here is by far my favourite of the set.

It’s possible that I’ll blog about ampersands in the future, as I find them such a fascinating letter form, and only discovered today that the ‘&’ is often regarded as the 27th letter of the alphabet.
